Why it's importantAlthough most people think the importance of the Emancipation Proclamation is that slavery was abolished, this is not why it is important. Since it was established in the middle of the Civil War, it had no affect on the Confederate since they had already seceded from the Union. However, it did mean any confederate territory taken under union control would then be under the Emancipation Proclamation. It brought a huge shock to the community, putting hope into slaves and the union.

Why it's the shining moment |
The Emancipation Proclamation did bring an important change immediately after it was established. Freed slaves could now join and fight with the Union. Close to 200,000 sailors and soldiers joined to fight with the Union by the end of the war. It was a massive contribution to the Union's victory and end the war faster. The Civil War was the biggest split of the american people. Without the Emancipation Proclamation the war would have differed greatly, and the America we know today may have never existed.
